DIGGERS BEACH near Grafton

It was an overcast day – almost about to sprinkle with rain but we took a chance to visit this out of the way beach in Yuragir National Park in the central north coast of NSW. The beach is accessed via a track at the top of the headland – we left the car there …

The track begins

Old banksia trunks

Along the track…

A stream emerges at the end of the track – You are now on the beach

At the edge

Ocean’s edge debris

A sea eagle? gets a big fish – not really sharp, it happened so quickly

Rock pools

There’s whales breaching out there… (not visible in this image)

More beach debris

And rain …

Then, it started to rain…

You may want to visit here someday ….

Mt BUFFALO: Reservoir Road Wildflowers ~ December 2011

A great walk to encounter wildflowers as well as a way of connecting the Mt Dunn return walk with the Lake Catani Campground.

MT BUFFALO: The Horn – to the summit

The climb to the summit of the Horn is short and strenuous – maybe for the not-so-fit. The flowers along the way and the views over granite landscapes and valleys beyond the Mt Buffalo plateau are truly spectacular.

MT BUFFALO: Mt Dunn – to the summit

Just when you think you are getting to the summit you find that the track has just come to the top of a ridge and there is more up-hill track to cover. You are near the top when a ladder, a very long steel ladder and then many wooden ones, beckons you to go higher … We had lunch of olive bread, stone fruit, cheese and nuts and contemplated the view towards the Horn and the Cathedral.

MT BUFFALO: Mt Dunn via The Long Plain walk

Mt Dunn seems centrally placed within the park and provides and opportunity to encounter many different ecosystems and landforms.

MT BUFFALO: Along the roadside

The view from the road can be quite amazing – particularly with the drama of clouds and the tortured landscape of the dead tree’s branches frozen in their fired torment.

But through the tormented trees and granite boulders wildflowers bloom – reclaiming the space …

MT BUFFALO: THE HORN ~ wildflowers

This gallery contains 13 photos.

The Horn is at the southernmost end of the Mt Buffalo plateau. At this time it was a mass of wildflowers, beetles, butterflies and bees. Doug photographing See the post about climbing to the summit of the Horn…
